There are people all over the country sitting in sports bars and La-Z-Boys watching teams like Davidson College and Gonzaga. They're clutching xeroxed copies of their brackets, hoping they win their office pools.
Most of these people don't follow college basketball at all throughout the regular season. (Come on, you brackets people - how many of you can tell me what conference Davidson College is in?)
I had to fill out a brackets sheet at work this week. (I'm back working part-time in the bookstore at Trinity International University, whose basketball team is NOT in the NCAA tournament.) A couple of the guys seem to know something about this whole brackets thing, and the rest of us just filled the sheets out to humor them. Since it's a Christian university, there's no office pool. The winner of the brackets gets to run around the bookstore gloating.
I picked So Cal to win the tournament. I totally picked them only because So Cal is a cool place. I don't know a single blooming thing about their team. I was told (after I filled out my brackets) that the team has the same chance of winning as say...Davidson. Then they put a picture of a person wearing a USC Spartans raincoat and umbrella on my computer, and taped a picture of my face on it.
I think they were laughing at me.
I say, "Go So Cal!"

Davidson College is in the Southern Conference. They lost to Maryland and got a 13 seed.
So there. Take it from Jessica. Some of us hardly watch during the year but we read sports (me, usually on the web). But come on...USC? And aren't they the Trojans?
Trojans, not Spartans. TIU's team is called the Trinity Trojans.
I have mentioned more than once that I would not be caught dead in public in a piece of clothing that said "Trojan" on it.
And Jess - anyone who would know this SHOULD be filling out brackets. Lots of `em.
You deserve an order of buffalo wings with a side of Gonzaga cheese for knowing about Davidson.
My score is 28 right now with an 87.5%. Stupid Duke. And somehow my bracket got switched from OSU winning to UNC. I'm going for OSU whether my bracket says it or not.
P.S. I left a couple of messages on your phone around 1:00 Friday morning.
Troy! Of course I remember you! I'd heard from Kristina that you and your wife had moved to KC last fall. I'm so glad for you guys and would love to hear how the transplant process has been for you and how you've plugged in there.
We hope to be out there visiting next month. My husband Bill and I ache to be a part of a house of prayer...
I know you get it. :)
If you need a place to crash, or want to go to dinner with somebody, feel free to give us a call while you're out here. We could catch you up then.
You can find my profile on FaceBook now, if you want to get our contact info.
It's been good; it's been a good transition, and we're loving it here. There's more of a story to it, but I'm assistant teaching a class here now, and we're taking the internship, and working with a community development team here with Marvin & Sally.
So we're staying very busy, but it's great to be here. We're in Allen Hood's Excellencies of Christ class right now, and it's awesome.
And of course, the prayer room is amazing.
Kansas City is pretty nice too. :)
Blessings.
